Abstract
Renewable energy is an indispensable input factor for the sustainable development of social economy. As a new type of economy, the BRICS 11 countries have the potential to promote the growth of global renewable energy consumption and will have an important impact on the global energy transformation. But the industry faces many challenges. In this study, the club convergence method introduced by Phillips and Sul was used to identify the characteristics and convergence of renewable energy consumption in the 11 BRICS countries from 2000 to 2020.Secondly, the panel qualitative comparative analysis method was used to analyze the driving path of the convergence club, and the development path of long-term and targeted improvement of energy consumption after the expansion of the BRICS organization based on complex causal conditions was clarified. The conclusions are explained as follows : ( 1 ) There is a club convergence effect on the characteristics of renewable energy consumption in the BRICS 11 countries ; ( 2 ) Economic level, carbon emission restrictions, technological innovation, energy security and population size constitute the driving factors of clean development of energy consumption, and various factors affect each other to form a configuration driving effect. ( 3 ) Energy consumption club has heterogeneity-driven development strategy. Overall, this study sorts out the path of configuration upgrading under the convergence structure of renewable energy consumption in countries after the expansion of BRICS, and provides a reference for countries to implement the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in a balanced and comprehensive manner from the economic, social and environmental aspects.
